​The Association of Community Rail Partnerships (ACoRP) have confirmed that a bid into their Small Grants Fund by the Clitheroe Line CRP to create some welcome boards for Langho station has been successful.

The CRP in partnership with the Friends of Langho Station, Langho in Bloom, local artist Alastair Nicholson and two local primary schools are working to create two ‘Welcome to Langho’ running in boards using artwork designed by the school children. When complete the welcome boards will be fixed to each of the platforms at Langho station.
Both primary schools in the village will be involved in creating artwork based on a logo design for the newly formed Langho in Bloom group. The Langho in Bloom group have become very involved with the Friends of Station group and assist in keeping the station and its environs in tip top condition. Bringing together the two schools and the two groups helping at the station will lift the profile of the station within the local community and form a true gateway to the village.

A packed house welcomed John Ball from Lancashire Wildlife Trust to a recent meeting of Langho in Bloom at the Sylhet Restaurant in Langho. John traced the history of wild flowers from the ancient Greeks and explained links with culinary and medicinal practices. He expanded on how to identify some of the flowers and explained how their names related tothe applications they were used for and also looked ats ome poisonous species which are abundant and self-seed in people’s gardens.

John is a volunteer at Brockholes Nature Reserve near Samlesbury where he runs guided walks every week. He is also a keen photographer and travel writer. On behalf of Langho in Bloom, Diana Rushton thanked him for an informative presentation which will make people look at the roadside verges with new insight in the future. Diana also thanked everyone for supporting the event, especially the Women’s Institute, Whalley Golf Club, Whalley in Bloom, St Mary’s Wednesday Club as well as many villagers from Langho. The event raised £125 for Langho in Bloom funds.

The team have collaborated once again and this time have utilised this amazing space at the side of the Langho Surgery. A dry stone wall was built and filled with soil/compost and a selection of hardy and perennial flowers were planted. Another job well done team!!! A special thanks to Ray and Colin.
